How do I keep clothes in my closet smelling fresh?
I wash my clothes well, and once they are done drying, they smell nice, and I hang them up in my closet. Well, after a week or so, they aren’t smelling as fresh, and smell kinda dirty, so I don’t wear those clothes and re-wash them.
Why do my clothes smell dirty even though I haven’t worn them or anything? I don’t put any dirty clothes in my closet. I wear them once and put them in my dirty clothes hamper. The only other thing I put in my closet are dry items that shouldn’t be affecting the smell of my clothes, such as CDs, Magazines, and books.
How can I keep my clothes smelling fresh for a long time? Should I spray my cologne on them? I tried using moth balls, but I don’t like the smell of moth balls. Do you guys have any tried and true methods?

either use febreeze or hang dryer sheets in your closet, first though, clean out the closet and wipe down all the walls and shelves.

I like to hang sachets of fresh lavender in the closets. Fresh lavender smells great and it leave clothes smelling great.

It sounds like there may be dust in the closet, or possibly the closet is getting a bit musty. You can go to the store & look in the laundry detergent area for Damp-rid.
The Febreeze is a good idea, but short termed. Spray the clothes & let them hang outside the closet for a few minutes while you do whatever you need to before putting the clothes on.
If you spray cologne on the clothes, you take a chance of stains. If you want to use it in the closet, put cologne on a cotton ball & tuck it into the corner of the closet.

Hanging lavender is good, make sure it’s fresh though. Another good one is rosemary and easier to find for a good price at farmer’s markets. I get a HUGE bunch for $2. It lasts for the whole week too. I would stay away from anything that chemical based, you don’t want that next to your skin or breathing it in. Make sure moisture isn’t a problem, the Damp-Rid is a good option.
Wiping the walls, shelves and/or floor with hydrogen peroxide will help detoxify without chemicals.
You know, we aren’t smokers and our apartment doesn’t smell like cigarettes but when I smell our clothes that we store in our closet (after we’ve been outside in the fresh air so our noses are cleared) sometimes our clothes smell like an ashtray. Someone sometime probably smoked in our apartment and that stuff NEVER goes away. Yuck. It’s a musty smell for sure. When we were first married we shared a kitchen wall with gross-fat-smoker-porn guy next door. He smoked so much our shared-kitchen wall dripped yellow drips every once in a while. Creepy. Make sure this isn’t pertaining to you. LOL

I use a fabric refresher (Frebreeze) and spray my clothes fairly often (every couple days) to keep them smelling fresh. Good luck. 2D

You should put an air freasheir in your closet or bring your clothes to the cleaners and tell them to put a special scent on it to make it smell good.
