Has anyone actually tried a non dell ink cartridge in a dell 924 printer and it work?

I have a dell 924 printer. I went online about a year ago and tried what was guaranteed to be a compatible replacement. It wasn’t. My printer recognized it wasn’t dell ink and told me so. You are forced to order directly from dell which is very high. Has anyone out their actually found dell cartridges cheaper and tried them so that you know they work?
